Working in the make-up industry I get asked a LOT of questions about cruelty free make-up, which brands to go for and which specific products I recommend so I thought it was only right to write a post specifically dedicated to this for all those with pending questions on this subject.
I haven’t made the switch yet to use just cruelty free brands and solely cruelty free products (simply for the fact that I own SO many make-up products that it’ll be painstakingly awful to throw so much away) but when I think about it, I do tend to use pretty much all cruelty free make-up brands anyway just out of habit and preference of the products. However, I do have a lot of followers and friends who use only cruelty free brands so wanted to create this post specifically for those people. If you’re one of them, I hope you enjoy the read!
These brands aren’t in any particular order due to the simple fact that I love every brand for completely different reasons so it would be nearly impossible to put them in any sort of order.
NYX Cosmetics (Available from Boots, NYX Official website and CultBeauty.com)
When I think of affordable cruelty free make-up brands, this is the first brand that comes to mind. Since recently coming over from America, NYX has completely taken the UK by storm and is probably one of the most talked about brands on social media currently. I’m pretty confident in saying that I’m sure at least 80% of the beauty accounts that I follow on Instagram have posted about something NYX since it came over to the UK – it just seems to be the brand that everybody is trying and wants to know more about.
There are very few products from NYX that I’ve tried and not gotten along with because the best way to explain their products is ‘high quality but a low price’ which lets be honest, nobody will ever complain about, right? Almost everything is just amazing.
Their eyeshadows are all incredibly pigmented, their lipsticks stay on for dear life, their brow products are comparable to some from Anastasia ones and everything (although it’s hard to believe it!) is below the £20 mark!
Make-up Revolution (Available from Superdrug and TamBeauty.com)
Make-up Revolution was probably one of the first ever brands that I started playing around with (other than the classic Maybelline Dream Matte mousse of course) and I’ve always been so impressed with the quality of the products.
As some of you may know, Make-Up Revolution is a slightly controversial brand to some people due to the fact that they dupe a lot of high end brands and products most of the time. For me personally, this isn’t an issue. At the end of the day, I know that there are a lot of people out there who use BOTH high end and high street brands and if you want to spend more on a particular palette, then you will. When I shop, I generally have in my mind how much I would be wanting to spend and just because another brand does a slightly different but very similar version of a product doesn’t mean that I won’t buy the more expensive one. I personally, love the fact that they create dupes because there are so many people out there who fall in love with high end products on social media but just can’t afford it so I think it’s nice for them to have a cheaper alternative.
I do have a specific favourite product from Make-Up Revolution and that is the Radiant Light powder in the shade ‘breathe’. Anybody who regularly reads my blog will know that me and most powders don’t have the best of relationships. For years I’ve struggled to find a setting powder that didn’t make my skin look super matte, dull or really flat so I always steer clear and just use settings sprays instead. Most of the time, my skin is pretty dehydrated so it’s not that I necessarily NEED powder. However, I do like to have that extra something to set my make-up in place and I’ve always wanted to find a powder that did this. Make-Up Rev, take a bow my friends. This powder is beautiful. Since discovering this little gem, it’s been on my face every single day. Comparable to the Hourglass Ambient Light powders, this affordable pan of beauty gives a lit from within glow to the skin without a strong highlight. Just enough to lock make-up in but make your skin still look alive and radiant.
Overall, I think that Make-Up Revolution is an incredible, high quality yet affordable brand and if you haven’t tried anything from them yet, I would highly recommend doing so soon.
Sleek (Available from Boots, Superdrug, Sleekmakeup.com and Feel Unique)
I haven’t bought anything from Sleek in a little while so my opinion is based on slightly more old school Sleek products. However, I have got my eye on their new metallic lipsticks because a friend of mine purchased some and said about how great they are.
Sleek are in my opinion, one of those brands that are a little bit of a dark horse within the make-up industry. Granted, everybody knows of and loves their highlighting palettes but apart from that, they don’t seem to be as hyped about as I think they deserve. They have so many great products that nobody talks about as much as they should, probably because people haven’t discovered them yet! If this is the case, then they need to be stocking up on some sleek goodies asap!
I love their wide range of colour products and can always find something new and exciting every time I visit a Sleek stand in Boots or Superdrug. Their contour, highlight and blush palette is an absolute staple within my make-up collection and without fail, I use that palette every single day. As regular readers will know, I am on a mission this year to use up products before opening new ones so the fact that I’ve hit pan well and truly on the highlight and bronzer shades is a pretty great achievement in my book.
