Here we are again with me actually remembering to post a monthly favourites – I know, last month I was slacking and didn’t manage to get one up – in all fairness my camera was broken and in repair, so it’s clear why! Forget April, May has now passed and a whole new load of beauty products have been fallen in love with and below you’ll find all of the beauty and skincare products that I was obsessing over throughout the month.
There are definitely more beauty items than skincare as I haven’t experimented too much with new skincare products recently and instead I’ve been on a mission to use up all of my existing products that are half empty. If you would like to know what products I’ve used up so far this year then let me know in the comments and I’ll get a post made up especially for you but for now, enough of the rambling and here comes my May favourites!
Tarte Rainforest Of The Sea Foundation – £30.00
First of all, how underrated are Tarte products?! I guess it’s because it’s pretty hard to get hold of here in the UK but honestly, if you haven’t tried anything from them yet then you must do soon. Every product I try has me head over heels in love and they never fail to disappoint.
At first, I thought that this foundation would be the first Tarte product that I didn’t like as typically, I’m not a huge fan of natural coverage foundations. However, this product is quite a lot like the Smashbox BB Water which I’ve been obsessed with for God knows how long now.
This foundation delivers a light-medium coverage with a natural-dewy finish. The little dropper applicator makes it unbelievably easy to get the correct amount of product either onto the back of your hand, onto your brush or even directly onto your face if you’re in a rush like I normally am. Due to it’s lightweight formula, it’s an absolute dream to blend out and layers beautifully with concealers and powder products too.
Make-up Revolution Radiant Light shade ‘Breathe’ – £5.00
I don’t think I’ve ever had a single make-up product that has literally completely transformed my make-up routine as much as this product. Given to me by my sister who could never find a use for it, This Make-up Revolution Radiant Light powder provides me with exactly what I’ve been looking for, for as long as I can remember. As somebody with dry skin, any powder that I’ve ever tried has just left me looking like a caked, patchy, shrivelled up mess by the end of the day. Simply because of how glowy this powder is, my make-up stays set all day long and thank the lord, now doesn’t look flat or cakey in the slightest!
These powders are very closely compared to the Hourglass Ambient Light powders as they have a soft highlight finish (not strong enough for an actual highlight however) but work beautifully to set all make-up in place. I’m no longer that girl who always says ‘I don’t wear powders because I hate them on my skin’ because I’ve finally found a powder that I absolutely LOVE.
Smashbox Shape Matters Palette – £60.00 (LIMITED EDITION)
I know, I know, I’m one of those annoying beauty bloggers who posts about and raves about limited edition items and I’m so sorry for that but I really haven’t put this palette down recently and therefore, it deserved a spot in my May favourites.
With a price point of £60, I had such high expectations for this palette and I wasn’t disappointed one bit. Not only does this palette contain 9 beautiful buttery eyeshadows but it also has Smashbox’s famous and award winning contour palette (along with a blinding champagne gold highlighter) and two brow powders with a clear wax. Added bonus? You get a brush included too.
This palette is the perfect travelling companion and comes with me everywhere I go. it’s super easy to use and is designed to help you contour every area of the face including cheeks, eyes and even brows because as the name says, shape does matter!
Jeffree Star X Manny MUA Velour Liquid Lipstick in ‘Daddy’ – £16.00
Despite the fact that I will be posting a full review on the Jeffree x Manny MUA collaboration collection, I wanted this liquid lipstick to have it’s own special little spotlight within my monthly favourites.
Out of the two lipsticks within the collection, this was the one that I expected to like the least. However, this colour is s.t.u.n.n.i.n.g! It reminds me a little of one of my favourite Smashbox lipsticks called ‘Shavasana’ but in a liquid form and is simply just a lovely and very unique, nude shade. Sitting on the spectrum somewhere between a light nude and a pale grey – this cool toned shade is the perfect finish to any make-up look and I’ve been wearing it constantly throughout the past few weeks.
As I’ve made it very clear in the past on my blog, I absolutely love Jeffree’s liquid lipsticks and have written a full review of them so if you want to check that out, scroll back a few posts and you’ll find it.
Nip & Fab Glycolic Fix Daily Cleansing Pads – £12.99
It’s only been recently that I’ve started using cleansing pads as like I’ve said in a previous post, I feel that they’re too much like wet wipes which I’ve vowed never to take my make-up off with again! However, stick with me here! These are GREAT if you double or triple cleanse like me!
These pads are soaked in exfoliating glycolic acid and help to resurface, retexture and brighten the skin. Naturally, my skin is very dehydrated and therefore, often looks extremely textured when I apply my make-up which is why I’m loving these pads! Anything that can banish my horrific texture gets an instant seal of approval from me.
Not only do these pads deliver all of the things mentioned above but they also include witch hazel to help tone the skin after cleansing. As I’ve also mentioned before in previous skincare posts, I’m so lazy when it comes to using toners so to have one built in? Perfect for me!
Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream – £20.50
After what felt like months and months and months, I FINALLY used up my Benefit It’s Potent! eye cream which in my opinion, was just an absolute waste of money and time and effort to apply it every day. Even as somebody who has super dehydrated skin, this eye cream was horribly thick and sat on my skin so heavily. It wasn’t too annoying to apply before bed and of course, I was about to go to sleep so it didn’t necessarily matter what eye cream I was wearing but in the morning? it was literally impossible to wear underneath make-up due to how thick the consistency was.
Not only this, but it did absolutely bugger all! Still horrifically dark circles day in, day out and I didn’t even get reduced puffiness. Literally, nothing.
However, you lot know me by now and regardless of how shocking a product is, if I’ve spent my money on it I won’t let it go to waste so I was forced to use it all up before purchasing a different one.
After such a bad experience with that one, you can imagine my joy (and also slight apprehension) about trying and buying something completely different. Holy moly, did I get a shock when I first tried the Origins Gin Zing one! I had tried a sample of the Gin Zing moisturiser in the past and really loved it so thought I’d give the eye cream a go too and my God, was I impressed? Hell yeah I was.
This is the most lightweight, gentle, radiant and beautiful eye cream I’ve ever come across. Whilst I apply it, I can instantly see my dark circles less and less and my favourite thing? It sinks straight in!
This eye cream is honestly my dream eye fix for both morning and night and it really does work! I really wish that I had taken a photo of what my dark circles were like previous to using this because they’re so different now and it feels great to not have to rely on concealer anymore – these days I hardly even wear it at all!
If you’re on the hunt for a new eye cream, I highly highly recommend this one.
That’s it for the favourites of May so I hope you’ve all enjoyed the read and that I’ve possibly helped a few people to decide on some new purchases too!
Thank you so much for reading and until next time,
Georgia x
