It’s been one hell of a year for fully putting products to the test as my mission has been to use up more and buy less because sustainability never hurt anybody, right? Although I’ve been great at doing my bit to save the planet, I’ve definitely made this post 10x harder to write because I’ve got so many options to choose from now. I’ve picked my favourite skincare and beauty items of the year (the ones that really stood out for me!) so I’ve compiled them all into one big blog post for you guys to enjoy reading.
The cleanser that really stood out for me this year was the Dermalogica Pre-Cleanse Oil. I’m a sucker for a cleansing oil as they’re perfect for breaking down all traces of make-up in a really gentle way and they leave your skin feeling super soft too.
As somebody who has really dry skin, I love anything that drives extra hydration into my skin so a serum is always my best friend. It always shocks me how many people complain about having dry skin but don’t use a serum – they literally work absolute magic. My favourite serum of 2019 has to be the serum that I’ve used consistently for the last few years and will continue to use as long as I possibly can. The bareMinerals Skinlongevity serum is absolutely incredible at hydrating and plumping the skin and leaves it so incredibly soft too.
Moisturiser has been a difficult one to choose as I change this every day depending on how my skin feels when I wake up. The one that has probably stood out the most has to be the Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream. It’s unbelievably lightweight so sits beautifully underneath make-up, hydrates instantly and smells like an absolute dream. Although Elemis products have a higher price point, they’re so worth the money and I highly recommend them.
I’ve used so many primers throughout the year but the one that made the biggest difference to my skin would have to be the Smashbox Primerizer. I used up 2 bottles of this little gem throughout the last 12 months and I’m head over heels in love with it. Not only does is hydrate with Hyaluronic Acid but it also fights against redness and breakouts with Niacinamide. The perfect all-rounder!
Foundation is a product that I use consistently every single day and this year I fell in love with the latest foundation launch from Benefit Cosmetics. Their Hello Happy Flawless Brightening Foundation is perfect for a medium coverage, glowy finish. Hyaluronic acid hydrates the skin whilst SPF 15 protects against UV rays. The packaging is also super cute too!
I’ve made my way through multiple concealers throughout the past year and found quite a few favourites along the way. However, my firm favourite has to be the bareMinerals bareSkin concealer. It’s medium coverage formula evens skin tone and erases dark circles whilst giving the most beautiful healthy glow I’ve ever seen from a concealer.
My favourite bronzer this year goes to the Too Faced Milk Chocolate bronzer. I’ve very nearly finished one up so that goes to show just how much I’ve enjoyed it! It’s the perfect cool-tone powder if you want to add structure and shadow to the skin. I use this in a 3 motion from my forehead, to underneath my cheekbones and along my jawbone.
My go-to this year has been the Bobbi Brown Santa Barbara blush. Its a beautiful peachy/pink shade with a slight gold shift running through it so it gives the skin a gorgeous glow. I’ve almost finished this beauty up which is impressive considering how huge the pan is! Once I’ve finished with this one I’ll be moving onto a loose powder blush instead so it’ll be interesting to see how quickly I use a different formula in comparison.
Choosing my favourite highlight of the year was without a doubt, the easiest choice of them all. I’ve completely finished this highlighter up now as I used it every single day without fail and absolutely LOVED it. I had countless compliments and questions about what product it was and one day I’ll definitely be re-purchasing it! The MAC Oh! Darling highlighter has won a special place in my heart for sure.
As I work for Benefit Cosmetics, I’m lucky enough to work with, use and own the best products on the market so the top spot for my brow product of the year goes to…Precisely My Brow Pencil! I’ve used 4 of these up throughout the last 12 months and still consistently use it every single day without fail. Its super fine tip enables you create those perfect hair-like strokes and sharpen up the edges of the brow and it’s waterproof, 12-hour formula keeps your brows in place all day long. Plus, you get a built in spoolie! What more could you want?
My palette of the year has to go to my Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette simply for the fact that I’ve used it so consistently throughout the year that it’s shown me just how versatile of a palette it is. Not only is this colour mix perfect for everyday with it’s mix of neutrals and colours, light and dark but it’s also gorgeous at night too! The shimmer shades amongst this palette are absolutely stunning and look gorgeous alone or paired with other shades too.
Again this was an easy decision for me as I’m so picky with mascaras that when I find one I like, it must be really bloody good! This year my number 1 was Benefit Bad Gal Bang (both in black and also bright blue!) and I completely finished about 4 tubes of the stuff. This mascara is perfect for loads of volume, length and gives the most amazing false lash effect too.
This was a really tricky one for me because I use so many different lipsticks that it’s almost impossible to pick a favourite. However, I’ll have to go for Jeffree Star Wifey because it’s without a doubt, the most beautiful red liquid lippy I own and I’ve almost completely finished it which proves just how dedicated to it I really am.
That’s it for my skincare and beauty favourites for the year so I hope you’ve enjoyed this slightly longer post and picked up a few bits for your Wishlist too!
I hope you all have a wonderful new year and that 2020 treats you well.
See you on the other side!
