The Body Shop Are Making A Change – The Return, Recycle, Repeat Campaign

Everywhere you look now, companies are beginning to take their first steps into being more planet loving, eco-friendly and sustainable which is such a positive movement. It’s especially important within the beauty industry because there’s a lot that needs changing so the sooner they begin making changes, the better. If we’re all honest with ourselves, everybody could be doing more to help keep our planet happy so when you see big corporations making changes, I think it’s so important to get behind this and support them whilst doing our bit too.

I’ve loved The Body Shop for as long as I can remember. Having loved not only their incredible products from my young teenage years, I also love their brand ethos and what they stand for as a company. They stand out to me as one of the brands that actively works to create and drive positive change and I absolutely live for that! Their latest project is something that personally, i’ll be getting behind 100% and I think others should too.

Return, Recycle, Repeat – What Is It?

The Body Shop’s latest campaign is pretty self explanatory and as you can imagine from the name, it’s super easy!

They are encouraging customers to return the plastic containers from beauty products (make sure it’s washed out, clean etc) into The Body Shop stores to be recycled. Unlike a lot of recycling companies who only take clear plastic, they’re accepting everything including black and coloured plastic which is amazing.

In stores you will see a recycling box (normally situated near the till points) for you to put your returned plastic. Simply just let a member of staff know what you’re doing and they’ll give back to you as a way of saying thanks! Yep, you heard it right – you’ll be getting something in return for recycling your containers! For every 5 Body Shop products you bring back for recycling, they will add £5 to spend in store onto your Body Shop loyalty card. If you’re not a member, you should be. It’s super easy to sign up and you can do so here. The points are so easy to collect and they have great loyalty bonuses including extra points when it’s your birthday which is a lovely little gift.

What Happens To The Returned Plastic?

As the campaign name says, The Body Shop recycle it! As soon as one of their boxes is completely full, their recycling partner TerraCycle collect it and replace it with another one. TerraCycle then sort through it all before it is repurposed and recycled into raw materials for new products. Sounds great, right? You can read more about it here.

Personally, I think this campaign is excellent and is something that we can all get behind! I’m on a mission this year to use products up (simply because I have SO many things half used) and I’m refusing to open/buy anything new until I’ve used up all of my opened stuff first. I actually have an unbelievable amount of Body Shop stuff within my collection so I’ll be working on finishing it all up ready to take them into store and recycle.

Thank you so much for reading and I hope today’s post has encouraged everybody to start recycling their empty beauty products. If this is something you’re going to be getting on board with, let me know in the comments below as I’d love to know.

Love & Lipstick,

Georgia x
