It’s been a while since I talked about make-up products on here (it’s mainly been skincare recently) so thought it was only right to share with you what my first impressions of the Holy Grail Palette are because let’s be honest, it’s all people have been talking about on Instagram recently. I was one of the lucky ones that managed to order it before it sold out again on BeautyBay several weeks ago and I haven’t put it down since. This palette has certainly not left me disappointed and I can 100% understand why it’s so hyped about. For this review I’m going to break it down into categories and talk about my opinions for each topic.
I know that Violet Voss recently changed the packaging on this palette and I’m pretty sure I’ve got the newer packaging. As far as I’m aware, the palette itself used to be just plain black with the font printed on the top but it now has a holographic effect to it which creates a rainbow design when placed under the correct type of lighting. I love this new style and think that it gives the palette that added something to make it extra special and even more stunning.
One of my favourite things about this palette is the enormous mirror that you get inside. So often, larger palettes don’t tend to have a mirror which is the most irritating thing when you’re on the go and need to get your face on fast. For that exact reason, this palette definitely got extra brownie points from me.
My first reaction when I received this in the post and opened it up to see the shades was simply just complete shock. I’d never seen a palette with such an incredible range of shades. You get the perfect mixture of light, medium and dark nudes along with beautiful golds and coppers and the most vibrant reds and oranges a makeup lover could wish for. There’s also just the right amount of balance between matte and metallic shades so that you get a good mixture within the palette. I honestly just couldn’t wait to put it on my face.
Okay, I’m going to make my statement of the year so far. This is the most pigmented eye shadow palette I’ve ever had the pleasure of using. One light touch to these powders gives the most intense colour pay off ive ever witnessed, it’s an absolute dream. The shadows blend seamlessly into one another meaning that it’s easy as pie to create the perfect smokey eye in minutes.
This is the first question that friends and family asked me after I had received the palette in the post and put it to the test for the very first time and my answer? Yes, absolutely 100% yes.
I had that split second moment after ordering where I sat there and thought ‘Have I really just ordered another eyeshadow palette?’ After promising myself at the start of the year that I would hold off getting anymore because I honestly have enough to last until I die (and probably some extra for my children and grandchildren to one day inherit!) I also considered cancelling the order and/or returning it after it was delivered but I’m honestly so glad I kept hold of it. This palette is definitely a keeper and I just considered it as a Valentines gift for myself because why the hell not?
These swatches are split into two sections as my poor sisters arm just isn’t long enough for 20 shades. The first photo is the top two rows, the second is the bottom two.
Lots of love,
